Model-based development requires adequate abstractions for a particular domain. The presentation provides an overview and comparison of model-based approaches in the domain of safety-critical systems, including Matlab/Simulink, synchronous languages such as Esterel, Autosar, SysML, the UML profile for embedded systems Marte, and the Timing Definition Language (TDL). This allows us to conclude what it takes to achieve full-fledged model-based development with automatic platform mapping.
